Desert Safari with Kids in Dubai: A Practical Parent's Guide

By BashDubai Team · 9/29/2026

Age advice, seat safety, what toddlers and teens enjoy, and how to keep a long desert evening easy for families.

A desert trip is one of the most memorable things a family can do in Dubai, but it is a long outing. A little planning makes it far easier.

Which age is right?

Children of any age can visit a desert camp. Dune driving is a different matter: it is bumpy and can be jarring, so it is generally not advised for babies and toddlers. For children under about five, ask for a **gentle drive or direct transfer** to camp. School-age children usually love the dunes, and teenagers often ask to go faster.

Car seats and safety

Tell the organiser the ages of your children when you enquire so a suitable seat or booster can be arranged, or bring your own travel seat. Everyone should wear a seatbelt during the dune section. Read our [safety guidance](/safety) for more detail.

Choosing morning or evening

- **Morning trips** are shorter (around four hours), cooler in summer and finish before lunch, which suits nap schedules. - **Evening trips** include sunset, dinner and shows but return around 9:30–10:00 pm. Many children fall asleep on the drive home, which is not a bad thing.

What kids enjoy most

Sandboarding on a small slope, stroking and riding a camel, henna designs, trying on traditional dress for photos and the fire show after dinner are usually favourites. Let them dig and play in the sand at camp — it is safe and they will talk about it for days.

Food

Camp buffets include simple options such as rice, bread, grilled chicken, fries and fruit. If your child has allergies, mention them in advance and pack a few familiar snacks.

What to pack

- Water bottles and a small snack bag - Hats, sunscreen and sunglasses - A light jumper for winter evenings - Wet wipes and a change of socks (sand gets everywhere) - A zip bag for phones and tablets

Motion sickness

Give children a light meal, sit them near the front where possible and let the driver know. A gentler route is always an option.
