Best Time of Year for a Desert Safari in Dubai: Month-by-Month
Temperatures, sunset times and crowds for every month, so you can pick the right season for the dunes.
Dubai's desert can be visited all year, but the experience changes a lot with the season. Here is what to expect in each part of the year.
October and November: the season opens
Daytime highs fall from around 36°C to 30°C and evenings become comfortable. Sunset moves from roughly 6:00 pm to 5:35 pm, so evening trips leave the city in mid-afternoon. This is a great time for families because the heat is manageable and camps are fully open without the peak-season crowds of December.
December to February: peak season
This is the coolest and busiest period. Afternoons sit around 23–26°C, but the desert drops to 12–15°C after dark, so bring a jacket or fleece. Sunset is around 5:30 pm. Camps are busiest around Christmas, New Year and school holidays; plan early and expect larger groups at dinner. Overnight camping is at its best now.
March and April: warm and clear
Temperatures climb back towards 30–35°C. Occasional spring winds can lift fine sand, which makes sunglasses and a scarf useful. Sunsets shift later, towards 6:40 pm, giving you more daylight in the dunes.
May to September: summer
Highs reach 40–45°C and the sand becomes very hot by midday. Evening safaris still run because the heat eases after sunset, but many travellers prefer a **morning safari** starting around 7:00 am. Drink plenty of water, wear breathable long sleeves and avoid walking barefoot on sand in the afternoon.
Ramadan
Dates move each year. Camps usually still operate, though some entertainment may be reduced and dinner times follow iftar. Dress modestly and avoid eating or drinking openly in public spaces during daylight.
Quick recommendation
- **Most comfortable:** November, February, March - **Best for camping overnight:** December to February - **Hot-weather choice:** a morning trip from May to September
