Dubai City Tour — Half-Day Sightseeing with Burj Khalifa & Old Dubai

The route, in the order we drive it

We start on the modern side while the light is still soft: Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain terrace, then Dubai Frame from Zabeel Park, then out along Sheikh Zayed Road to Palm Jumeirah for the Atlantis view. Dubai Marina and the JBR beach walk come next for a coffee stop and the skyline photographs most guests want. From there we cross to Deira, park near the Gold Souk, walk the Spice Souk and take a one-dirham abra across Dubai Creek to Bur Dubai, finishing in the Al Fahidi wind-tower district where the city started.

Half day or full day, and what each really covers

The half-day tour runs four to five hours and covers the drive-by icons plus one walking section, usually the souks and Al Fahidi. The full day runs seven to eight hours, adds Burj Khalifa At The Top entry, a longer stop in Old Dubai and time for lunch. If you only have one morning in the city, take the half day and spend the evening on a desert safari. If Burj Khalifa entry matters to you, take the full day, because the observation deck alone consumes about ninety minutes with security and lifts.

Practical notes for sightseeing in Dubai

Vehicles are air-conditioned, but you will still be outside for the souk and Creek sections, so bring water, a hat and closed comfortable shoes. Modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees is expected in Deira and Bur Dubai. Souk traders expect bargaining; a third off the first price is a normal landing point in the Gold Souk. Friday mornings are quiet in Old Dubai because of prayers, and December to March is the comfortable walking season.
